About our meetings
We run weekly meetings throughout the City of Bristol where we provide support for adults suffering from mental distress.
Our meetings are there to provide you with:
- Guidance from our Steps to Recovery programme which has been specifically designed to help you recover from mental distress
- Encouragement from a group of people who can share their insights and experience and who understand what you are going through
- Support at a time when your belief in yourself and ability to cope with life may be at a low ebb
At our meetings we will help and encourage you to set goals for yourself so that you can start to make small but measurable steps towards being well again.
We will help you to equip yourself with the tools you need to enable you to make some positive changes in your life.
If you are not comfortable with participating or talking in front of the group, then you are welcome to just come along and observe how the meetings work.
When do the meetings take place?
Our support meetings take place on a daily basis, so you can pick a meeting that is convenient for you. All our meetings happen at the same time and same venue every week except for Christmas week and Bank holidays. We currently have 4 meetings that run in the daytime and 3 meetings in the evening.
Who are our meetings for?
Our meetings are for adults (anyone over the age of 18) suffering from a range of mental health conditions such as depression, stress, anxiety, bipolar disorder, social anxiety, personality disorders, self-harming or mood swings, to name just a few. If you are suffering from any form of mental illness, and are able to converse with people, you are welcome to attend our meetings.
You do not require a referral from your GP, you can just turn up on the day. Feel free to call us at the office if you would like to speak to a friendly voice before coming along, our tel no is 0117 941 1123 and email email@example.com
Our service is not an alternative to other treatments but is there to complement many of the other services provided by statutory bodies.
How much does it cost?
Our meetings are free. You don't have to pay anything to attend. We do have collection boxes at the venues where you can make a donation to the running of the meetings, but this is completely voluntary.
Which group should I attend?
You can attend any of our meetings that is convenient for you. We have meetings that are run during the day, and others during the evening. Meetings take place in various locations across Bristol. You can attand more than one meeting a week if you feel this would be helpful.
How regularly will I need to attend?
You are free to attend our meetings as often as you feel you would like to. There are no rules stipulating how often you need to attend. Some people come every week to our meetings, some every two weeks, and others may come monthly.
You are able to use the support network for as long as you'd like to. Some people attend our meetings for many years, others will use the support network for just a few weeks or months, and then move on when they feel that they have benefitted fully from it. Many people use the support network to either maintain their mental health or to improve it whilst having a dip in their mental wellbeing.
What can I expect from a meeting?
Our meetings are relaxed and create a comfortable space where people suffering from mental illness can come and talk to others who share similar problems.
