What is 5k May?

5k May is a fundraising campaign set up by our friends at Run for Heroes. This challenge first took place in 2020, raising £7 million for NHS charities. This is a 5k challenge where we ask anyone from the 1st – 31st May to move 5k, donate £5 and nominate 5 people to take part.  Run for Heroes have asked Changes Bristol to take part and raise vital funds to help people in mental health distress.

After donating £5 HERE, participants can run, walk, cycle, swim 5k – any movement that works for you, making this accessible to anyone. You can also hit your goal over a number of days and break the challenge up.

Next you need to nominate 5 people to also take part in the challenge – one person only needs 5 degrees of separation in order to fundraise over £15,000! In 2020 this challenge was a viral sensation with famous faces such as Mo Farah taking place, so if you’re savvy on social media, please champion this campaign.

This challenge will also create connections with friends that you may not have seen for a while, get people active and doesn’t take long to complete.

Why Changes Bristol

Changes Bristol is a community based mental health charity that provides free peer support services to help improve people’s mental wellbeing. Currently we are running 17 weekly peer support groups both online and in-person as well as telephone befriending and Walk & Talk service for anyone who wants one to one support.

Changes Bristol is available to anyone; all wellbeing services are free, open-ended (you can attend as many or as few as you wish) and there is no need for referral or diagnosis. Trained volunteers who facilitate the groups / befriending service have lived experience of mental health distress and our spaces are safe, friendly and non-judgemental. Our groups provide a community and network to share problems and as a result, members develop increased confidence, resilience and self-esteem.
