Example meeting agenda

Our meetings last for around 2 hours.  They are relaxed and informal.  A typical meeting would run as follows:

  1. People welcomed and chance to have a tea/coffee
  2. Introductions and a reminder for people to turn mobile phones off
  3. Read through the Steps to Recovery
  4. Read through group meeting ground rules.
  5. Announcements (Social events, notices etc)
  6. Any questions can be asked regarding Changes service
  7. Members invited to talk about how they feel/share their emotions which includes following up of previous goals and, if appropriate at this time, setting new goals
  8. Break for hot drink and informal chat - 5- 10 minutes
  9. After the break - a discussion takes place around a relevant mental health topic tied in with the Stepsto Recovery programme. We have modules with learning materials for discussion topics. (This will be about 10 - 20 minutes depending on how many people have so far spoken)

This discussion can happen at the beginning of the meeting OR after the break in a meeting depending on time management and what the members of the meeting would like. Alternatively, if people would like to bring extracts from self-help books etc as a topic for discussion this is also welcomed
  10. Resumed individual concerns/sharing round - other members invited to speak
  11. Goal setting round if people have not already done so
  12. Members are invited to recite Changes Commitment
“Grant me Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can,  And Wisdom to know the difference.”
