Mend for Good launch
And sew it begins...
We were sew excited to launch our new fundraising initiative, Mend for Good, from Tuesday 21 through to Thursday 23 March! For three days we were in the e3 offices at Paintworks with a team of experienced sewing volunteers ready and willing to review, measure and mend your clothes for donations to Changes Bristol!
Our brilliant volunteers made and distributed leaflets and posters in advance of the event. They looked amazingly professional!
Everything was carefully set up on the Monday night so we were ready to go first thing in the morning. Our lovely office volunteer was sent on a treasure hunt around the office, putting together all the items we needed to take with us into a large pile on the boss’ desk (good job he wasn’t there that day!).
There was sew much to do! It was our first time of running this event so tensions were high! But our fabulous team of expert sewers were the reel thing and soon adjusted this. When the going gets tough, the tough get sewing, check them out on the first day:
By the end of day one, our volunteers had taken up sleeves, fixed collars, re-sited buttons, tailored jackets and fixed rips. Finished garments hung around waiting for their owners:
Day two brought plenty more mending and three new volunteers looking forward to the challenge ahead.
And I’ll be darned, there were certainly a hole lot of challenges!
Our final day and everyone began to unwind and settle into a pattern. We even stopped the sewing puns as we ran out of good material. A hem.
A massive well done to our team of volunteers who set up their pop up sewing workshop to raise money for Changes. They adjusted and repaired 55 garments raising nearly £400 for us!
A huge thank you to the wonderful team at e3 who were so warm and welcoming which helped make this a really successful launch!
We look forward to our next Mend for Good event!
