A Short History

Origins

Changes Bristol was set up in 2003 by Richard Pearce who was a trustee at another charity - Changes Health and Wellbeing in North Staffordshire which ran peer support meetings.

Richard relocated to Bristol and found the city did not have any support network like peer support meetings in operation. He began to run a peer support meeting on his own in 2003 due to the needs of the community in the City of Bristol.  Over time it was clear that the need for a larger capacity to help people with depression and anxiety with the peer support group model and therefore began expanding the organisation.

Registered Charity

In 2007 the organisation gained Charity status – Registered Charity No 1120388.

Since then, the charity has increased its base for funding and expanded its service, becoming a professionally run organisation which now provides 7 peer support meetings across the City of Bristol.

Changes in North Staffordshire

Although we take our name from Changes in North Staffordshire we are a completely separate charity and receive no financial support from them.

Changes in North Staffordshire have developed resources over a 20 year period to help those with mental distress. We are allowed to use these well developed resources and literature in order to provide support within our meetings (courtesy of Dave Wheat).
